Celeste Louise Smith, long-time WCC member, passes away in CA

The Board of the Woman’s Century Club was sorry to learn that our immediate past president, Celeste Smith, passed away in Atherton, CA, on May 23rd, 2015. She had moved to California, her childhood home, earlier this year for health reasons. Celeste joined WCC in 1993 and served two terms as president, 1998-2000 and 2002-2004. It was a family tradition, as her grandmother, Mary J. Smith, was a life member who joined in 1905.

Celeste Louise Smith was born on November 6, 1949, to Louise and Thor E. Smith. She attended Forest Ridge School of the Sacred Heart until her family moved to Palo Alto, CA, in 1955. She attended Sacred Heart School in Atherton, but begged her parents to let her go to a public school for her senior year—which she did. Her grandfather, Carl J. Smith, practiced law in Seattle for 45 years. Her father was in the publishing business and sold books to schools. A memorial service will be held in Seattle in June, but no date has been set.

She was a wonderful advocate for the Club, and her smile and graciousness will be missed.
